Palm Kernel oil differs from the regular Palm oil. Palm oil is extracted from the flesh or pulp of the fruit (the outer part) while palm kernel oil is extracted from the soft part of the seed (the inner part).

Palm Kernel oil has a very distinctive and strong nutty, roasted smell and can either be dark brown (black) or light yellow (or clear) in colour. The difference in the colour stems from the extraction process. The oil extracted via the cold press method is light yellow or clear, while the traditional heating method produces the dark brown / black coloured oil.  At room temperature the oil is semi solid. 

Palm kernel is known to offer numerous beauty and health benefits. Palm Kernel oil is known in Nigeria as Adin dudu or Adin Ekuro amongst the Yorubas, Main Alaidi amongst the Hausa, Nmanu Aki or Ude Aki in Igbo language. In the North Americas oil from Palm Kernek is referred to as Batana Oil (Elaeis Oleifera).
